Organic Guatemalan Antigua – Medium Roast

The mountain basin surrounding the austerely beautiful city of Antigua produces the most distinguished of the Guatemalan highland coffees. Most Guatemala coffees grow in volcanic soil under shade trees from the Inga genus. The shade of these trees provides a balanced atmosphere for the coffee plant, preventing an accelerated metabolism which can exhaust the plant. The organic material produced by the shade trees not only enriches the soil, but also protects it against erosion. Guatemala Antigua, is a coffee that combines complex smokiness, cocoa overtones and spicy undertones as a twist to the inherent strong acidity. Developed as a medium roast to maintain the coffee’s zip, it has a medium body and a delicious, full flavor. Every cup is an experience to savor.

Guatemala Coffee - Gourmet With A Twist

Coffee is an energy-boosting beverage that is prepared from roasted seeds of a coffee plant. Coffee, which is served hot, is the second most commonly traded commodity in the world. So, just where is coffee grown? In addition to other countries who are famous for this crop, Guatemala has been long since known for it’s ability to produce the coffee plant and even for manufacturing gourmet coffee, itself.

Guatemala coffee is available at a variety of specialty stores and via the internet from many American retailers. Antigua is known as the Guatemala coffee district and is located in the central highlands. Guatemala coffee is fragrant and features a distinct smokey flavor that is well balanced with a twist - a spicy twist, to be exact. Especially popular in Europe where it is frequently used as an ingredient in espresso, Guatemala coffee is available as regular, organic or decaffeinated. In the United States, Guatemala coffee may be found for as little as $10.00 for a small amount and up to $30.00 or more for a 5lb. bag of gourmet blend.

Because it is manufactured and sold as a gourmet product, Guatemala coffee may be a little more difficult to find that your average commercial blends. Many people around the world are coffee drinkers that couldn’t otherwise start their morning without a sip or two of this dark, delicious beverage. Coffee itself is thought to help aid in migraine headaches, help the individual to stay awake, promote energy and relieve stress.

On the downside, caffeine, an ingredient found in coffee, can be addictive if not consumed responsibly. Individuals suffering from caffeine withdrawal may become irritated and/or nervous. It may also cause an increase in blood pressure.
